Creating a Youth-Friendly Volunteer Program (ORG 2.2)

This module guides organisations in creating youth-friendly volunteer programs that are engaging, accessible, and safe. It covers designing meaningful roles, promoting opportunities through youth-preferred channels, supporting young volunteers through onboarding and interviews, and meeting legal and safety requirements. By following these strategies, organisations can build positive, confident, and lasting youth volunteering experiences.

Welcome to Creating a Youth-Friendly Volunteer Program. This lesson is designed to help organisations understand and respond to the unique needs, motivations, and expectations of young volunteers. Young people are contributing to volunteering in diverse ways—from micro-volunteering and online roles to advocacy and creative projects—but they engage most when opportunities are meaningful, flexible, and clearly aligned with their interests. This lesson will provide practical guidance on designing roles, promoting opportunities effectively, supporting young volunteers through onboarding and interviews, and ensuring safety and compliance.
