Disability Inclusion Contexts and Concepts (ORG 1.2)

This is the first of a three-module course that introduces concepts, contexts, and perceptions of living, working, and volunteering with a disability. This module provides the background that participants will build upon in module 2 and 3.

The design uses exercises to encourage participants to relate disability to their personal and professional lives to understand the importance of attitudinal perspectives in creating an inclusive workplace. It focuses participant thinking on whether their organisation is ready to move to be inclusive and provides the direction for the preparation to do so.

  • Reflect on traditional perceptions and to consider a contemporary lens of disability – society, workplace, and language/terminology
  • Understand current trends of disability in the employment / volunteering workspace
  • Be aware of what inclusion means and why it is important

Topics:

  • What is disability
  • Understanding disability
