Youth Volunteering in Practice: Real Organisational Scenarios is the final module in the Engaging Young People in Volunteering suite. Through practical, scenario-based examples, this module equips organisations to effectively engage, support, and retain youth volunteers while addressing real-world challenges. Participants will gain actionable insights to design inclusive, meaningful, and sustainable volunteering programs.

Youth Volunteering in Practice: Real Organisational Scenarios demonstrates the strategic and operational value of youth volunteers by providing hands-on, scenario-based examples that reflect the realities of managing and supporting young people in volunteering roles. This module draws on the core principles of understanding youth motivations, creating youth-friendly roles, and addressing legal and safety considerations, while introducing real case studies to illustrate these concepts in practice.

Learning Intentions

By the end of this module, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognise and articulate the benefits youth volunteers bring to organisations, including fresh perspectives, digital literacy, and enhanced community connections.
  2. Analyse real-life organisational and volunteer scenarios to identify potential barriers and challenges to youth engagement.
  3. Apply youth-friendly role design principles to create meaningful volunteering opportunities that align with both organisational needs and young volunteers’ motivations.
  4. Implement effective strategies for recruitment, onboarding, mentoring, and ongoing support of youth volunteers.
  5. Understand and apply legal, safety, and ethical frameworks to protect and empower young volunteers.
  6. Reflect on organisational practices and adapt approaches to foster an inclusive, supportive, and sustainable youth volunteering program.
  7. Use scenario-based learning to make informed decisions in real-world volunteer management contexts.
